What a long way we've all come since first meeting Jon in 2009. Glenn & Julie were married in 2009 and now are about to be parents & I'm about to be a grandparent! We lost Mom in May of 2010, someone that carried the torch for all of us in Faith & unconditional love.
And now, what seemed against all odds, Jon in remission! This day had been a long time coming.
Tom, I've loved you all your life. You were the one I grew up with & have the most childhood memories. You were more of a brother to me than a nephew. I'm so proud of all of your accomplishments in both your career & personal life. You are a kind, loving, compassionate, giving person that deserves the best, and in Jon, you have found that. I'm so happy to have you and Jon in my life.
Got your save the date card...I'm so excited for you guys! This website is fantastic! Can't wait to share your big day with you two!!

There have actually been two proposals in our journey leading to this ceremony where we will celebrate our love and exchange vows.
The first came from Jon. Prior to Hurricane Ike, Jon and I dated pretty regularly for over 2 years, but maintained separate residences. When Ike was in the Gulf approaching Galveston, Jon offered that I could ride out the storm with him, since his apartment was brick and only had 2 windows. I was living in a 1930’s bungalow in the Heights that was a wood, pier and beam house with lots of windows. So, I took him up on his offer. Ike hit Houston September 12-13, 2008 and I ended up living at Jon's for over a month because my neighborhood lost power for that extended period of time and he never lost power. (He only lost cable for a few hours and never lost electricity!)
Our time under one roof was quite enjoyable and there were not any major issues cohabitating. In fact, we really got to know each other very well and our bond grew significantly stronger. One day as Nov. 22 (the date of both of our birthdays) was approaching, Jon announced that he thought, "as an external sign of our commitment and love," we should exchange rings for our birthday present to each other. I was very surprised, but also very happy! I agreed and as it turned out, Jon actually purchased both of our rings and presented them to me one evening at dinner. After my electricity came back on, since my place was bigger, Jon moved in with me in the Heights...we have not lived apart since.
The second proposal pretty much came about organically, after Jon was declared in remission from his brain cancer and was slowly getting better. We were both so happy that he survived and realized that if our relationship could withstand what we had been thru those 2 years, it could handle virtually anything. I think we both simultaneously had the idea that it was time to have a public ceremony and reception to celebrate the love and support we have received from so many of our family and friends. It was not a traditional proposal per se, we just both knew our relationship had grown to that stage and it was time. We started planning right away, but it took us several months to pick a date that would work best.
Once the date was set and confirmed with our church, the planning hit high gear! We are both so excited and are really looking forward to having the opportunity to personally and publicly thank all that have supported our relationship and have helped in making this day a reality.
When I first saw Tom, it was New Year's Eve some five years ago. I was celebrating with a group of friends at our favorite piano bar. Tom came over to me when I finished singing "FLY ME TO THE MOON" and he gave me his phone number, written on a matchbook. I thought that was nice except for the fact that he was on a date with someone else. I went back to my friends and we kind of laughed about it. I put the matchbook in my pocket, and didn't think much more of it.
Three days later I found the matchbook on my dresser and decided to give Tom a call. He seemed very excited, and we planned a dinner date for the next night.
We had dinner at the now defunct "Brownstone Restaurant". The food was great, but the chemistry and conversation was even better! We found that we had many things in common. Not to mention, the fact we shared the same birthday, November 22, albeit 5 years apart. I always like to tease Tom about that FACT.
We cruised along in our relationship, with the normal ups and downs that most couples experience. That is, until I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which progressed to stage four brain cancer. That was really a lot for Tom to take on, but he stood by me all the way. Now thanks to his support and the doctor’s care I am in full remission!!
Tom, I love you, and I couldn't have gotten through this without you!
I know things will continue to go well for us, and our love will continue to grow and deepen with time!!
The first time that I laid my eyes on Jon, I actually thought, "OH MY!"…but I was on a date with someone else! It was New Year's Eve, five years ago and we were out celebrating at a piano bar when I noticed this really cute guy singing and having a fun time with his friends. I waited until my date went up to refresh our drinks at the bar; I wrote my cell phone number on a matchbook and then acted like I had to go to the Men's room. I slipped the matchbook to Jon on the way by and asked him to call me. He smiled and I smiled back.
That night I went home thinking about him and hoping he would call. Three days later, I had just hopped into my truck and was backing out of the driveway headed to Lowe's when my cell phone rang. I froze hoping it was him, but guessed it probably was not. I answered - AND IT WAS HIM! He said, "Hi, I'm the guy that was in the black sweater at the Outpost the other night, do you remember me?" I said, "Yes," but thought, REMEMBER HIM? I'VE BEEN WAITING 3 DAYS FOR HIM TO CALL! LOL! He asked if I wanted to go out on a date the next night, I said, “Absolutely!” He gave me his address and said, "See you then!" That was it...I was so excited; I pulled back in, parked and called it a night!
The next day, I asked a foodie friend (Marcus) at work where I should take Jon to dinner. He suggested 2 places. One was an Italian Restaurant that turned out to be right next door to where Jon lived. We decided to go there, but when we turned into the parking lot we realized it had closed down…I thought, “uh oh,” not a good start. But then I mentioned the other suggested place and Jon said it was good and just down the street. It turned out to be the perfect place for a first date - quiet, dark, private and slow paced. We had an instant connection and it felt like we were there all alone, spending over 2 hours talking and enjoying each other’s company. During dessert, the subject turned to birthdays…he said his was near the end of November…I tingled, had a strange feeling and asked what date…he said, "the 22nd" - I knew then it was fate…we have the exact same birthday! (Ok, five years apart...but the same day!) The next thing I knew, the date was over and we were at the door of his apartment. I told him I really liked him and wanted to go out again…he said he felt the same way! That evening was the beginning of something very special!
During the last 4 years, we have been through more then most couples experience their entire marriage…so, I have no doubt we have the tools to make the rest of our lives absolutely fabulous!
I was born in Monroe, Michigan. In the late sixties I moved, with my mother, to California. I attended school, grades 1-12 in California.
Most of my summers were spent with my grandparents, in Michigan. I would spend my time cooking, working at Monroe Upholsterers and the Gift Loft, and hanging out with my favorite aunt "Meebie!"
I married at an early age, and that union produced two great kids. Whitney, who is married to Chad, and has two children of her own - Colt and M.J., who are real sweeties! My son, Zachary, is going to college and living in Waco.
Having worked in restaurants and inns throughout the U.S., I finally landed in Texas. I stopped working in 2009 and later that year was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, involving the central nervous system. Eventually it moved to the brain. A ton of chemo treatments followed, and although that almost killed me, I am now in complete remission.
I spend most of my time taking care of Tom (a full-time job!), our home, and our little Mitzi girl!!
I am a born and raised TEXAS boy, the oldest of 4 children with one brother (Brad) and 2 sisters (Colleen Blair & Michelle Ackley). I was born in Victoria, Texas and have lived in the Houston area since 1972.
I adore my two wonderful children from my first marriage. Ashley is 21 years old and currently living in College Station working on a degree in the medical field. She is engaged to be married in December 2012 to Justin Rice. Matthew is 19 years old. (He will be 20 by my wedding.) Matthew is taking general education courses at Lone Star Jr. College and is planning to transfer to a major University after he completes this year's studies. (He is undecided on a major, but thinking Science or Information Technology.)
I have worked for the same downtown Houston company, in the same building for over 27 years. I am the Payment Card Program Manager in Shell Oil's Fast Lube Division - responsible for our integrated credit/debit processing program, including maintaining compliance with the Payment Card Industry regulation requirements. I also developed and implemented the Jiffy Lube Gift Card® which is the first and only nationwide gift card available in the oil change industry.
I enjoy singing in large ensembles, long-distance bike-riding and making stained glass windows. (However, I have not had much time for any of these hobbies for quite some time.)
Jon & I love living in our beautiful home, in a quiet subdivision in the Spring Branch area, near Memorial City & City Centre. Our house has a floor plan that is perfect for one of our greatest joys, entertaining family and friends.
Meeting caterer at the reception venue for a tasting session and to let him check out the venue and its kitchen facilities. (Set for 8/11/11) UPDATE: All food was great...very happy with our caterer selection!
Tom & Jon launch their personal website at www.TOMandJON.com
Jon & Tom spent 5 hours walking around the Houston Wedding Expo and found a potential caterer...yea!
We bought a Double-Glass-Door Refrigerator that will be used to stage the Cake, Desserts & Flowers! (Hey, we needed it anyway, right?)
Decided that we wanted to have our cermony and reception at our own church - Bethel UCC with Rev. Maggie Snyder as the officiant.
We welcome you to share in the experience as we prepare to start another chapter of our lives.
We would like to thank everyone who is planning to attend our celebration of the love uniting us and the feast and merriment to follow! It is going to be such a thrilling time for us, and we appreciate everyone that has helped in making this happen.
We hope you enjoy browsing these pages for photos and stories about us and our future plans - learn about all of our family and find out about our ceremony & reception.
